Originally constructed in 1869 with design input by Florence nightingale, Highgate Mental Health Centre was significantly extended in 2006 and comprises 10 mental health wards of varying security levels providing accommodation for 156 service users. The property is located in North London, a short walk from Archway Underground Station.
The client brief was to undertake a comprehensive refurbishment of each of the 10 wards on a phased ward by ward basis.
The Centre remained in full occupation throughout, with service users being decanted into the refurbished wards immediately following completion in order to allow works to commence on the next ward.
The Programme was identified as being a key driver for the client as they had to outsource accommodation to facilitate works. Each ward was on a sectional completion basis, with a strict 3 week programme and no room for extensions.
A comprehensive CDP package required design and installation of electronically controlled sanitary ware, anti-ligature features to door ironmongery, lighting and Fire detection systems.
